Poche Plantation, Hollywood Casino RV Park, Bay St. Louis, MS

5/7 – This morning before we left the owner of Poche Plantation, LA took us on a tour of the Plantation House that he and his wife have been restoring. Very interesting and they have done a nice job. This was the home of a man who became a lawyer, judge and then Supreme Court Judge in LA. We enjoyed it! Then we headed east through New Orleans and drove on some roads that have been built since Katrina that are very nice. Much easier to drive than the last time we had been in New Orleans (1972) even though this was the second weekend of the Jazz Festival which is very popular and there was traffic heading into the French Quarter.
Peaceful drive back into Mississippi and on the Gulf Coast. This area was destroyed by Katrina and they are slowly building it back up. The tourists have not come back yet so the state is hurting. There is a lot of building of condos and apartment’s right next to the water. Stayed at the RV Park in Bay St. Louis, MS next to the Hollywood Casino.
Hollywood Casino RV Park, Bay St. Louis, MS – 94 sites, $35 for cable, water, electricity,WiFi, 24 security, picnic tables, showers, laundry, free shuttle to the casino and back, use of the facilities like the pool and hot tub at the Casino Hotel. If you get a players card you might even get your camping for free depending on how much you spent in the gambling hall.
The drive into the Hollywood Casino is very pretty with all the Palm Trees lining the roads. The RV Park is in walking distance of the casino and the campers are located in a figure eight layout with some trees providing shade throughout the park (I think there were more trees before Katrina). This whole area was devastated by Katrina and there is building going on all over the gulf. It is very nice. The check in was quick and the lady at the desk very nice and informative. Bathrooms are clean. The lunch buffet for $10 is very good from 11-3. We would return for another one night stay! Leaving tomorrow to try to get into the Gulf Islands National Seashore campground in Mississippi. It’s a first come first serve campground! Still upset about that dog being left at Natchez State Park. If only he had known that he would have had a better life if he had gone with the Canadian couple John and Sue and their two dogs! The owner of Poche Plantation told us that he has one stray per week dropped off or left in his RV Park. He tries to find homes for them because down here the pound will only keep a dog for one week before they put them to sleep.
